Lihue is popularly known for being the capital of Kauai County in Hawaii, being the second largest town in the region. It was once an idyllic small village but all of that changed with the construction of sugar mills in the region with its arrival in the 19th century. Today, it has a total population of 6,455 and population density around 898.3 per square mile. Lihue is home to a vibrant town life for all its lucky residents.

With its surroundings plantations and proximity to the sea, it makes for a charming place to call home.

Lihue offers some of the only big name shopping outlets on the island, such as Macy’s,  Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Costco. Lihue is also home to a fine system of schools, making it a great choice for families with children. There’s even a private pre-kindergarten available here for new parents at The Island School.

Lihue is a prime hub for local industries and commerce because it is home to the biggest airport on Kauai. Despite being the economic center of the island, the city has a distinct island charm and the gorgeous scenic vibes remain despite urbanization.

The temperate weather, the local industry, the gorgeous Wailua Falls, the Kilohana Plantation and of course, Kalapaki Beach, provide the perfect mixture of work-and-play that gives a unique charm to life in Lihue. Lihue is a popular tourist destination as a result, being home to a Marriott resort and numerous inns.

Lihue offers ample sunbathing opportunities, sports facilities, business properties, airport access, and a wide range of homes and industrial buildings.

The mix of restaurants, adventure sport opportunities, superior school network and commercial opportunities, makes these properties especially wonderful. Considering all that Lihue has to offer, this is one of the best places to settle in Hawaii.
